Former Kentucky guard Dominique Hawkins may face NBA-NFL decision

Former Wildcats guard Dominique Hawkins may be faced with an NBA or NFL decision.

Former Kentucky guard Dominique Hawkins, a four-year player for John Calipari, is likely a long shot to play in the NBA. He averaged 4.7 points for the Wildcats as a key member of their Elite Eight team this past season as the team’s veteran presence.

But his 44.5-inch vertical jump and athleticism make for enticing qualities for professional teams. And according to reports from DraftExpress.com and the Lexington Herald-Leader, NFL teams are interested in the idea of Hawkins’ skill set potentially carrying over to the football field.

The 6-foot Hawkins, who has drawn interest as a potential defensive back according to those reports, has been working out in Los Angeles with hopes of attracting interest from NBA teams. He’s reportedly working out for the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Calipari has praised Hawkins over the years, saying he’s “tough as nails.” Should the NBA — or NFL — not pan out, a likely basketball career overseas could also be an option for Hawkins.
