A: Tuesday Morning and Total Wine & More retail stores will share the former Sports Authority space on the northern end of Coconut Point, the regional mall on U.S. 41 in Estero.

Gates Construction, the Bonita-based company that originally built that Sports Authority store in 2005, began construction this month to divide the nearly 40,000-square-foot sporting goods store at 8012 Mediterranean Drive, between PetSmart and T.J. Maxx. The exterior façade and entrances will be remodeled and the interior will be razed, renovated and slated for completion by early fall to accommodate the new tenants, Gates reports.

Total Wine, a liquor and fine wine retail chain, is targeted to open its 19,620-square-foot store in September. Tuesday Morning, a retail chain with a discounted selection of brand-name home furnishings and gifts, plans to open its adjacent 17,697-square-foot store this fall.

During a public hearing in January, the Estero Planning & Zoning Board approved the request by Total Wine to allow the package store to move into the space and sell beer, wine and liquor for off-site consumption. Total Wine has two other regional locations: one in the Market Square shopping center at U.S. 41 and Daniels Parkway in south Fort Myers and another in Carillon Place at Airport-Pulling and Pine Ridge roads in Naples.

Tuesday Morning already has area locations at Cypress Trace and McGregor Pointe shopping centers in south Fort Myers, Granada Shoppes in North Naples and Gulf Gate Plaza in East Naples.

When it opened in April 2006, Sports Authority followed Old Navy to become the second store to launch in the first phase of Coconut Point, a Simon Property Group mixed-use project with 1.2 million square feet of retail space.

Thelongtime Sports Authority store closed last summer after the Colorado-based sporting goods company filed for bankruptcy in March 2016 and shuttered all of its more than 450 stores, six of which were in Southwest Florida.

As reported last week, Miami-based El Dorado Furniture plans to open a showroom early next year in the North Naples space Sports Authority vacated on the corner of Airport-Pulling and Pine Ridge roads.
