The map shows the site of the West Mountain Unit 6 pile burn set for May 22-26.

Crews with the Lincoln National Forest are planning to conduct a prescribed burn off New Mexico Highway 246 about four miles north of Capitan from Monday through Saturday.

Ignitions for the West Mountain Unit 6 project may be completed in one to three days, depending on the daily weather conditions. Forecasts currently look for light winds, cloud cover and higher humidity. That forecast combined with sparse short green grass and other vegetation between the slash piles are expected to provide a successful prescribed burn achieving desired results
