Vanderbilt routs Alabama 18-1

Vanderbilt scored eight runs in the fourth inning to defeat Alabama 18-1 Thursday night at Hawkins Field.

In the last two games Vanderbilt’s offense has erupted for a total of 35 runs.

The Commodores (32-21, 14-13 SEC) won 17-7 over Middle Tennessee State University on Tuesday.

The Commodores were led by strong outings from Jason Delay and Ethan Paul. Delay went 3-for-4 on the night with four RBIs and a double. Paul added a pair of RBIs going 2-for-3 on the night.

Four Alabama (19-33, 5-23 SEC) pitchers combined to allow 18 runs off 21 hits.  

11 of the Commodores 15 batters registered a hit.

Starting pitcher, Patrick Raby (9-3) earned his SEC-leading 9th victory throwing seven innings while striking out seven.

Thursday’s 18 runs, is the second highest run total for the Commodores this season. Vanderbilt tallied 21 runs against MTSU in April.

The series continues Friday as Kyle Wright faces Alabama’s Jake Walters at 6:30 p.m.
