14 things to do in Nashville this weekend, May 19-21, 2017

The Goodguys 12th Nashville Nationals is heading to Music City for a three-day celebration of the American automobile. This event brings over 2,500 hot rods, customs and classic cars to Nashville, plus Goodguys AutoCross racing competition, exhibits, swap meet, cars for sale, entertainment, a kids zone and more.

1. Tennessee Renaissance Festival, all weekend 

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival continues this weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Take a trip to 16th century England, visit Covington Glen's renaissance marketplace, see a royal joust and more. See the schedule and buy tickets online at www.tnrenfest.com. Parking is free. Children 5 and younger are also free. The festival is at 2124 Newcastle Road in Arrington (Williamson County). 

General admission for one day starts at $22. 

 

2. Nashville Boogie, through Sunday

This celebration of mid-century American music, culture and style is expected to attract 8,000 people. There will be 90 acts spotlighting a mix of classic rock, rockabilly and country music. The lineup includes Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wanda Jackson, modern rockabilly's Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats, Pacific Northwest garage rockers The Sonics, western swing superstars Asleep at the Wheel and even a western fashion show, pinup contest, vintage vendor market, record convention, classic car and hot rod show until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. (And that's not all.)

The Nashville Boogie is at Opryland Resort and Convention Center. 

Weekend passes are $135 and one-day passes for Friday or Saturday are $65 and are available at NashvilleBoogie.com and at the door. One-day passes for the car show and vintage market are $5 and available at the door. Tickets for the Jerry Jeff Walker, Bobby Bare & Friends performance on Sunday, May 21 at the Grand Ole Opry House are $15-$45 and are available at opry.com.

 

3. Goodguys Nashville Nationals car show, all weekend

The Goodguys 12th Nashville Nationals is heading to Music City for a three-day celebration of the American automobile. This event brings over 2,500 hot rods, customs and classic cars to Nashville, plus Goodguys AutoCross racing competition, exhibits, swap meet, cars for sale, entertainment, a kids zone and more.

The gates are open Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nissan Stadium, 1 Titans Way.  Call 925-838-9876 for more information. 

General admission is $20 and tickets for children 7-12 are $6. There's a $10 parking fee charged by Nissan Stadium. Visit www.good-guys.com for event tickets or to register a show car. ($17 general admission tickets are available online until 11:59 p.m. on May 18 only.)

 

4. Children's Day at TriStar Centennial, Saturday

The Children's Hospital at TriStar Centennial is hosting its third annual Children's Day celebration with tons of activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Nashville Zoo and Angel Heart Farms will have animals on hand; there will be a carnival and inflatables, rock climbing, a mechanical bull, music, food and a "dunk-a-doc" dunking booth where pediatric specialists will take the hot seat as children step up to sink their favorite physician. There will even be race cars there. There will also be events inside the children's hospital for kids who can't go outside. 

The event takes place in the Murphy Lot at the children's hospital which is located at 2221 Murphy Ave. in Nashville. Parking is available in the Lentz lot located at 23rd Avenue and Patterson, across the street from TriStar Centennial Heart and Vascular Institute.

5. Richland Park Marketfest, Saturday

The Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association hosts West Nashville's only annual festival, marking the opening of Richland Park Farmers Market and the "hipstoric" West Nashville neighborhoods. Lightning 100 brings live music and dance performances, Fat Bottom Brewery sponsors a beer garden, free yoga will be available from Small World Yoga, entertainment from Wishing Chair Productions' puppet truck, plus 50 farm, food and artisan vendors and organizations plus a neighborhood yard sale and Friends of the Library book sale. It takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Charlotte Avenue and 46th Avenue. Search the Facebook event for more information

6. See Ferdinand the Bull, through Sunday

Nashville Ballet presents the beloved children's tale "Ferdinand the Bull" from Thursday through Sunday. The story is about a lovable bull who'd rather sit and smell the flowers than participate in bullfights. This performance features vibrant sets and costumes inspired by the cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso, too. Tickets are $12 for children and $18 for adults. 

 

7. 40th Bellevue Community Picnic, Saturday

Bellevue Harpeth Chamber of Commerce hosts the 40th annual Bellevue community picnic presented by Nashville Christian School. It'll happen at Red Caboose Park, 656 Colice Jeanne Road. THere will be local vendors, food trucks, live music, arts, crafts and a fireworks show plus a show from Resurrection - A Journey Tribute at 8 p.m.

8. 12South Home Tour, Saturday

12South's largest annual fundraiser is this weekend, with a tour of seven homes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. More info, including tickets, is available at: https://www.12southhometour.com/.

 

9. Benefit for Syrian refugee education, Saturday

Helping Hand for Relief and Development hosts a benefit for Syrian refugee children at  6 p.m. in the Global Mall at the Crossings. Comedians Baba Ali and Preacher Moss will be on hand for entertainment. The mall is located at 5252 Hickory Hollow Pkwy. #114. Buy tickets at https://hhrd.org/buyTickets?eventid=125

10. Celebrate local chefs with delicious wine

The fourth Nashville Wine and Food Festival showcases more than 50 wineries plus the best restaurants and local chefs from Music City. 

The fest takes place at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, 600 James Robertson Parkway. (You must be 21 to attend.) Learn more at www.thenashvillewineandfoodfestival.com

11. Capitol District Street Fair in Germantown, Saturday

The fourth Capitol District Street Fair joins Germantown, Salemtown, Hope Gardens and Buena Vista for a day of music, food and celebration at Morgan Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be street vendors, of course, with tempting food and music from Kelsey Kopecky, Morgan Bosman, Staying For The Weekend, Andrew Leahey & The Homestead, Airpark and Heath Forbes. 12. Watch the laser show, Friday

The Adventure Science Center's after-hours laser show is from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Sudekum Planetarium. Enjoy full dome digital imagery, brilliant lasers and millions of stars. Sudekum Planetarium is located at 800 Fort Negley Blvd. in the Adventure Science Center.

13. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at the Schermerhorn, all weekend

Relive the excitement from J.K. Rowling's beloved book in the second film's screening — with the Nashville Symphony performing John Williams' score live. There will even be costume prize giveaways, butterscotch beer at the bars, a house pride competition and a photo booth. Learn more on nashvillesymphony.org

Tickets range from $49 to $129 depending on the day you attend. 

 

14. May night market, Friday

Nashville Farmers' Market hosts its night market every third Friday of the month from 5-9 p.m. Shop, sip and dine local inside the market house at 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. Learn more on the Facebook event.
