Gov. Scott Walker declares state of emergency after tornado

After surveying damage from a tornado that struck near Chetek in northwestern Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday declared a state of emergency for three counties.

Walker instructed state agencies and the Wisconsin National Guard to help clean up and rebuild from a tornado and thunderstorms that killed one person and injured 25 living at a mobile home park in Barron County, about 40 miles north of Eau Claire.

A state of emergency was declared for Barron, Jackson and Rusk counties. Heavy rain hit parts of west-central and northwestern Wisconsin Tuesday evening where some areas got more than 5 inches of rain which damaged roads and other infrastructure.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the devastating tornadoes that hit last night," the governor said.
