MU track teams lead Big East

The Marquette men’s and women’s track teams sprinted out of the gates at the Big East outdoor championships Friday in Villanova, Pa.

Marquette, which is looking to repeat as men’s and women’s team champions, got a head start with five individual titles on the first day.

John Krzyszkowski claimed his fourth straight javelin title in convincing fashion. He had a heave of 230 feet 6 inches, which was nearly 40 feet longer than the next closest competitor.

Dwayne Dash Jr. (long jump) and Daniel Armstrong (high jump) also won as MU rolled up 71 points. DePaul was second with 51.

In the women’s meet, Terica Harris (long jump) and Gemma Tedeschi (pole vault) won to help MU score 60 points. Villanova was second with 46 points.

Big Ten: Wisconsin’s Malachy Schrobilgen pulled away down the stretch to win the 10,000-meters in the conference meet in State College, Pa.

Thanks to Schrobilgen’s victory, UW was second after the first day with 18 points. Penn State led with 40.

The UW women were in ninth place.

BASEBALL

Wright State scored five runs in the seventh to beat host UW-Milwaukee, 8-5, for a split of their doubleheader.

Jay Peters (8-1) pitched his fourth straight complete game as the Panthers took the opener, 4-3.

SOFTBALL

Ohio State 3, Wisconsin 2: Shelby Hursh scattered four hits and the Buckeyes ousted the Badgers (33-15) from the Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Hope 7, UW-Whitewater 0: Sydney Jones fired a two-hitter and the Flying Dutch eliminated the host Warhawks (37-9) from the NCAA Division III tournament.

UW-Oshkosh 2, Benedictine 0: Sara Brunlieb tossed a four-hitter as the Titans (31-11) downed the Eagles (33-12) in the La Crosse Regional.
