The body of a man pulled from a Golden Gate canal Friday afternoon has been identified as Marc Newberry, 20, of Naples, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Newberry was involved in a single-boat crash at 4:30 p.m. in a canal near 32nd Avenue Southwest and 50th Street Southwest, according to a report from the FWC South Region.

Newberry wasn't the only one in the boat at the time of the wreck. David Banas, 21, was with him. No information on Banas' condition was detailed in the FWC report.

Newberry and Banas were traveling on a boat headed east in the canal. They were ejected from the boat after they tried to make a left turn, the FWC stated.

The incident remained under investigation Saturday.
