A good start to planting for an Indiana farmer

A southern Indiana farmer says planting has gone well so far this spring and his corn has started to emerge.

David Gottbrath says they’ve had just the right amount of moisture so far.  “I guess we’re about half or a little over 50 percent done with corn,” he says.  “We’ve planted some soybeans too – but I haven’t seen any soybeans coming up yet.”

He tells Brownfield they’re going to try and beat the weather that’s forecast through the weekend.  “We’re going to go ahead and try and get some more planted today,” he says.  “But, I think we’ll be okay – the soil is pretty warm down here and even cool and wet shouldn’t be too bad on us.”

Gottbrath says they aren’t pushing too hard to finish planting just yet – because he says it’s still early.
