All-clear given after Kenosha County ammonia leak

KENOSHA - Authorities have given the all-clear after an anhydrous ammonia leak in southeastern Wisconsin.

A pickup was hauling a trailer with two tanks of anhydrous ammonia in the Town of Paris on Wednesday morning when a valve on the tank trailer malfunctioned, releasing the toxic gas, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said.

Crews were able to close the valve, ending the leak. But residents were told to stay indoors and close doors and windows, and roads entering the town were closed.

The truck driver was not hurt. An elderly man who lived close to the leak was evacuated from his home to his family, who came to the scene.

By late afternoon, authorities said roads had reopened and there was no longer any danger to the public. The incident remains under investigation.
