Increased fire danger today

Low humidity, warm temperatures and winds blowing in from the south could spark wildfires, the National Weather Service warned.

With the spring green-up not yet finished and plenty of dried grass and leaves still on the ground, near critical fire conditions are expected today in southeastern Wisconsin as well as south central and central parts of the state. The weather service cautions people not to burn outside.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the upper 60s and lower 70s in the Milwaukee area this afternoon while relative humidity levels dip down to 20% to 30%. Winds from the south and southeast will increase to 10 to 20 mph.

Firefighters worked to contain a brush fire Saturday.
