Prep district softball: Palmetto Ridge defeats East Lee County in quarterfinals

The No. 3 seed Palmetto Ridge High School softball team beat No. 6 East Lee County 10-0 at home on Monday night in the Class 7A-District 12 quarterfinals.

Palmetto Ridge scored four runs in the first inning, two runs in the second, and four runs in the sixth.

Savannah Nocera led the Bears’ offense going 3 for 4 with a double. Mikayla DeSear and Tori Macino each finished 2 for 3 at the plate.

Baylee Haggard picked up the win, giving up two hits, while striking out 11 in five innings.

“Baylee Haggard looked really strong on the mound tonight,” Palmetto Ridge coach Brian Creel said. “We had a lot of timely hits with Mikayla DeSear, Tori Macino and Savannah Nocera leading the way. Great first-round district win.”

Palmetto Ridge is at No. 2 Naples on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

CLASS 3A-DISTRICT 6

(4) ST. JOHN NEUMANN 12, (5) COMMUNITY SCHOOL 2: Marcella Bolenbaugh led the Celtics’ offense, going 3 for 3 with a triple, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Hannah Sullivan also hit a triple, while Janessa Ravener and Veronica Benitez each had doubles.

St. John Neumann is at No. 1 seed Moore Haven on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
