NOTABLE

Player of the week: Jenna Trewyn, Oak Creek. The freshman had a busy day at the Western Kenosha County Invite Saturday, going 10 for 12 at the plate while catching all three games.

She went 5 for 5 with two triples, two home runs and eight runs batted in an 18-5 victory over Zion-Benton (Ill.). Trewyn also went 2 for 4 with three RBI in a 14-4 victory over Westosha Central.

With the day, she raised her batting average to .700 with a 1.500 slugging percentage, four doubles, three homers and 20 RBI.

Team of the week: Kettle Moraine. The Lasers raised their record to 7-0 before falling to state-ranked Chippewa Falls in the final of the Watertown Invite Saturday. Kettle Moraine’s average margin of victories in those victories was 11.4 runs.

The team’s resume of victories includes a 9-2 victory April 6 over Catholic Memorial, which shared the Classic 8 title last season, and an 11-1 triumph over Watertown Saturday.  Senior Sommer Kunstmann tossed the five inning complete game and went 2 for 3 with two RBI while senior Katelyn Yute went 1 for 4 with one RBI.

Lampe honored: Oak Creek is dedicating its field to former coach Greg Lampe, a member of the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, on May 11 at 4:15 p.m. before its game with Kenosha Tremper. The team plays its games at East Middle School in Oak Creek.

Lampe started the softball program at Oak Creek and spent 17 seasons as its head coach. His teams went 302-52, won nine conference titles and made five straight trips to the WIAA state tournament starting in 2000.

Familiar spot: Westosha Central has established early control in the Southern Lakes race. The team defeated what is believed to be its toughest competition for the crown, Wilmot, 9-4, last Tuesday despite five errors. Sophomore Olivia Kazumura tossed a complete game. The team’s No. 1 pitcher, Alyssa Hrncar, was out due to injury but returned to Saturday to get a complete game victory over Carmel (Ill.) Catholic at the Western Kenosha County Invite Saturday.

Honor roll: Greenfield junior Alyssa Vilkoski scored victories over Kenosha Tremper and Menomonee Falls at the Western Kenosha Country Invite Saturday. She struck out 12 in 13 innings and in three games went 7 for 11 with two doubles and RBI. ….

West Allis Central freshman infielder Joette Kassa went 11 for 12 with three triples, one home run and seven RBI in three games last week …

Westosha Central pitcher Alyssa Hrncar recently returned from an injury.

Milwaukee Languages sophomore Nevaeh Lucas went 8 for 10 with five RBI last week to raise her average to .529.  …

After a 1-2 start, Palmyra-Eagle has won five of its last six games. The Panthers (6-3) won the Montello Invitational Saturday. Junior Emma Hammond pitched 11 innings in the three games, allowing just one hit and striking out 13.

COMING UP

New Berlin West at Whitnall, 4:30 Tuesday: This is the first of a handful of big games featuring the contenders in the Woodland in the coming week.  Also on the slate will be West at Greenfield at 4:30 Thursday at Konkel Park and Greenfield at Whitnall at 4:30 on Friday.

Muskego at Kettle Moraine, 5 p.m. Tuesday: The Lasers play host to the three-time defending Classic 8 champion.

Milwaukee Hamilton at Milwaukee King at Garden Homes, 4:30 p.m. Tuesday: The top programs in the City Zussman Division take the field.
