In a tough day for Tennessee baseball, the Vols lost 2-1 at Texas A&M on Friday, then announced pitcher Kyle Serrano had left the program for "personal medical reasons."

UT announced Serrano's departure via its Twitter account, saying: "We ask for the respect of privacy for Kyle, his family and the team at this time.''

The junior and the son of coach Dave Serrano was returning to form after having Tommy John surgery last spring.

Serrano, a Farragut High School alum, had pitched 9⅔ innings this season with an 0-2 record and 3.72 ERA. If his career is over, he leaves with an 8-10 record and 126⅓ innings pitched.

The Vols (19-16, 4-12 SEC) had hoped Serrano could assume an increasing role as this season progressed.

Hunter Martin (4-4) pitched his second complete game Friday at Texas A&M, yielding the winning run in the ninth inning. Tennessee's run came in the eighth when Jeff Moberg tripled and scored on Jordan Rodgers' single.

UT sends freshman Garrett Stallings to the mound Saturday for a 3 p.m. ET start.
