Construction will start this month on a 150-room hotel planned for downtown Milwaukee's former Pabst brewery complex.

The six-story Hyatt Place is scheduled to open by late spring or early summer of 2018, said Greg Spanos, managing director for hotel developer Janko Group.

Mke Hotel LLC, an affiliate of Deerfield, Ill.-based Janko, recently bought the hotel development site for $1.35 million from Brewery Project LLC, an affiliate of Zilber Ltd., according to state real estate records posted Monday.

Construction is about to begin on a Hyatt Place hotel at the former Pabst brewery complex.

The hotel will be built on a vacant lot at 821 W. Winnebago St.

The project will have an estimated total cost of $27 million, Spanos said.

Plans for the Hyatt Place were disclosed in September.

It will be the second hotel at The Brewery, the multi-use development that is replacing the former Pabst complex.

The 90-room Brewhouse Inn and Suites opened in 2013, at 1215 N. 10th St., in the former Pabst brew house and adjacent mill house.
