The emphasis on the little things continued during spring camp for the Tennessee football team as the Vols held ‘Fundamental Thursday” this afternoon at Haslam Field.

UT’s 11th spring practice started with footwork drills and special teams work.

Junior running back John Kelly took his leadership role literally by directing the young running backs during a drill. There were no coaches present. It was just Kelly showing James Christian, Ramsey Hailey, Taeler Dowdy and Chip Omer the proper technique.

A few other notable items:

  • The quarterbacks worked on rolls out, seam routes and deep balls during a brief window open the media. Redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano struggled with consistency in the few throws he made during the session.
  • This was by far the most secure practice of spring with local law enforcement officials lining the far sideline. It’s the annual tradition of UT coach Butch Jones inviting them to practice to watch and interact with players.
