Longtime Shorewood fine menswear store Harleys has been sold to the owners of a men's apparel retailer in Green Bay.

The owners of The Haberdasher Limited bought Harley's, 3565 N. Oakland Ave., on Monday, said Tim Ryan, who has owned Harleys since 2000 but wanted to retire.

With the sale, Harleys will continue operating under the Harleys name and retain its five employees, Ryan said in an interview Tuesday.

Financial terms of the sale weren't disclosed.

"It's somewhat bittersweet just because this has been my only adult job," Ryan, 68, said. "So after 50 years, part of why I was hopeful that it would happen is because I'm ready to move on to the next chapter in my life. But it was very important to me, if possible, to see the Harleys name continue to be a member of the metro Milwaukee business community. So I'm very pleased that was was able to be attained."

New Harleys owner Daniel Wickman said his Green Bay store sells to a market like Harleys, and he doesn't plan many changes.

"I'd say exactly the same as Harleys is to Milwaukee, Haberdasher is to Green Bay," he said.

Wickman, who bought Haberdasher with his father about two years ago, said he wanted to maintain the Harleys brand name locally as a go-to place for upscale men's clothing.

He said he expected that under his ownership, Harleys will add "a few new price points for young professionals" and others, and bring in some more "weekend" attire.

"It won't change much, but just add a little more variety for other people who don't dress as formal," Wickman said. "We're living in a more casual world now, so we'll have a few more casual clothes to go along with that."

Harleys was founded in 1948 by brothers Harold and Stanley Dubman, who combined parts of their first names to form the store's name.
