Brooke Vines, Tennessee all over N.C. State in softball, 16-2

Tennessee batted around in the bottom of the second inning to score six runs and whipped North Carolina State in a five-inning run-rule 16-2 victory on Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Brooke Vines had a career-high four RBIs with three of the runs coming on a bases-clearing double to center field in the fourth for the No. 19 Vols (30-5). The sophomore was 3-for-3.

N.C. State led 1-0 in the second. It was long afternoon after that.

Scarlett McSwain hit a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to give the Vols a 3-1 lead. It was McSwain's fourth of the season and second in as many games.

Sophomore Matty Moss (15-1) allowed four hits and struck out five in the complete game against the Wolfpack (12-23).

Meghan Gregg of UT had a pair of RBI doubles and added to her NCAA-best total of 50.

Brittany Nimmo (4-10) of N.C. State struggled in two innings of work, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks.
