Megan Geer, Meghan Gregg power Tennessee softball, 8-3

Tennessee hit three home runs to defeat North Carolina State 8-3 on Friday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Megan Geer hit a grand slam in the first inning, Meghan Gregg added a two-run homer in the third and Scarlet McSwain had a solo shot later in the inning for the Vols (29-5).

Geer is eighth all-time in program history for career RBIs with 164. Gregg moved to 10th all-time in  RBIs with 160.

The home run for Gregg was her ninth of the season, and the junior leads the nation in RBIs with 48.

Nine players recorded a hit for the Vols.

UT freshman and Maryville High School graduate Caylan Arnold (13-4) went 4⅓ innings, allowed three runs and struck out three against the Wolfpack (12-22). A run scored on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch. Matty Moss pitched 2⅔ hitless innings in relief.

The three-game series continues Saturday at 4 p.m.
