Indiana farmer says he’s opting for a more traditional rotation

The acreage debate continues ahead of Friday’s Prospective Plantings report from the USDA.

Analysts are predicting a big shift to soybean acres this year – but that’s not the case for Indiana farmer Tom Griffiths.  “I’m going to stay with my continued rotation,” he says.

And he doesn’t anticipate a big swing in acres nationally, either.  “I would really be surprised to see the acres change much from what they were last year,” he says.

Griffiths tells Brownfield it doesn’t pay in the long run to make the switch.  “It might look beneficial to plant some more soybeans this year,” he says.  “But you’re ging to end up paying for that in the long run when you try to go back to your normal rotation.”

The USDA’s Prospective Plantings report comes out Friday at Noon Eastern/11am Central.
