The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s golf team finished fifth of 15 teams Tuesday after the third round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Murray State won the tournament over Eastern Kentucky in a one-hole playoff, as both teams were tied with a score of 888.Kansas State took third with a total of 890, followed by Winthrop (907).

FGCU finished with a 908 (300-303-305).

Kelsy Holbert led the Eagles, finishing in a tie for eighth of 82 golfers, with a score of 222 (74-73-75). Megan Blonien shot a 227 (77-73-77). Madeline Marck-Sherk carded a 228 (71-79-78). Ailsa Clark scored a 240 (78-81-81) and Madison Easterbrook finished with a 153 (0-78-75) for FGCU.

"We were definitely disappointed with 305 today," FGCU coach Sarah Trew said. "We wanted to go out there today and pick up a couple spots. However, we're playing much more consistently, and if that's our bad round, we'll take it. I'm seeing great improvements from the entire team. We're learning how to get the ball in the hole even when we don't have things go our way. We have a couple of weeks before conference and need to focus on putting and our short game. If we can clean up those area’s we'll be in good shape. I'm especially proud of Kelsy (Holbert) this week for her top-10 finish. She's been working so hard on her game and it's exciting to see how it's paid off. I think with each round she plays, she gains more and more confidence."

The Eagles head to Braselton, Georgia, for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship from Sunday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 18
