WPS Farm Show underway

One of Wisconsin’s oldest farm shows is underway.

Corey Kuchta from Wisconsin Public Service says the WPS Farm Show is a tradition that began back when rural electrification was just getting underway.  “It started 57 years ago when farmers were just starting to get electricity and energizing their farms to wire them up, so Wisconsin Public Service started a farm show and started with just a couple of exhibitors back in the Brown County Arena in Green Bay and it’s grown to this.”

Kuchta says now, the show highlights innovation like GPS and precision planting advances and other ways to more effectively manage the farm… but he says they still get a lot of interest in farm rewiring programs and how to install proper electrical grounding, modern 4-wire systems, and more efficient lighting and fan systems.  Kuchta says the rewiring programs are offered by every utility in the state and have come a long way towards eliminating stray voltage issues of the past, which often affected dairy herd productivity.
