College roundup: FGCU women's golf drops to sixth at John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate

The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s golf team sits sixth of 15 teams after the second round of the three-round John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia State at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia, on Monday.

Eastern Kentucky moved into first with a two-round score of 590, followed by Kansas State (591) and Murray State (595). FGCU has a total of 603 (300-303).

Kelsy Holbert leads the Eagles, with a total of 147 (74-73). Madeline Marck-Sherk and Megan Blonien each have a 150. Marck-Sherk shot 71 in the opening round and 79 in the second. Blonien carded a 77 in the first round and 73 in the second. Ailsa Clark has a 159 (78-81) and Madison Easterbrook shot a 78 for FGCU.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday.

WOMEN’S BEACH VOLLEYBALL

FLORIDA ATLANTIC 4, FGCU 1: Katherine Puisis and Karissa Rhoades picked up the Eagles’ lone win, beating Brittany Pellitteri and Sam Gott, 21-15, 21-10.

FGCU (7-2) heads to Jacksonville to play North Florida and Jacksonville on Friday starting at noon

BASEBALL

HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY 9, FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN 4: Hillsborough held a 6-2 lead after the third inning and scored three more runs in the fifth to take the win.

The Buccaneers scored a run in the first and in the third, on RBI singles by JD Dutka. Sam Freitas added an RBI single in the eighth and Ian Kimbrell came home on an error in the ninth for FSW.

FSW (20-20, 6-10 Suncoast Conference) travels to Tampa for a second game against Hillsborough Community on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
