St. John’s Seminary to hold open house in Camarillo

St. John’s Seminary will mark its 78th year of service with an annual open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 5012 Seminary Road.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour the seminary’s grounds, see the recently rededicated alter in its historic chapel, meet students and enjoy refreshments.

Family event includes fitness activities

CONEJO VALLEY — Conejo Recreation & Park District Sports Office is hosting a free family fitness fun day starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Waverly Park, 1300 E Avenida De Las Flores, Thousand Oaks.

The activities begin with Fitness Run & Strength, 9 to 9:30 a.m.; Yoga, 9:45 to 10:15 a.m.; Family Fitness Boot Camp, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.; and Exercise/Activity Station Course Workout, 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Activities are presented by The Body Defined, Thousand Oaks Pacers, and Soul Body Yoga instructors. One family member per household needs to register at crpd.org/reg.  For any questions contact the Sports Office at  495-4674.

Benefit concert to help scholarship fund

OXNARD — “Hollywood Music Magic,” a benefit concert for the Oxnard College Foundation - Susan Curtis Denham and Andrew Curtis Dental Hygiene Scholarship Fund, will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Oxnard College Performing Arts Auditorium.

The scholarship fund helps cover the cost of medical tools to benefit dental hygiene students at Oxnard College.

This year's concert features local musicians singing solo, duets and group numbers accompanied by a live band.  The song list has been compiled from popular movies (musicals), Broadway shows and one blockbuster TV series.  The evening will also showcase a magician.

Tickets are $50 for VIP admission, which includes a 6 p.m. reception; $30 for general admission; and $10 for student admission.

Sespe Flyfishers to hold free casting classes

VENTURA — The Sespe Flyfishers will conduct classes on “Casting with the Fly Rod” from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Chumash Park, 9351 Waco St.

The event is free and open to the public. Whether you are a complete novice or a seasoned pro, you can learn and improve your skills. Bring your fly rod or use one that will be supplied.

Future classes are planned for May 6, June 3, Sept. 2 and Oct. 7. Fishing trips will be planned for July and August. For more information, call Bob Smith at 647-3522.
