Garbage truck fire in Oxnard extinguished

A fire that engulfed garbage truck along the 2000 block of East Gonzales Road in Oxnard Monday afternoon was extinguished within about 30 minutes.

The fire was reported at 2:06 p.m. and put out by 3 p.m. No structures were threatened by the fire and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

The fire appears to have started in the engine compartment, said Alex Hamilton, a battalion chief with the Oxnard Fire Department.

Fire investigators remained on scene as of 3:30 p.m., Hamilton said.
