Naples woman dies after two-vehicle crash on Marco Island

A Naples woman has died after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Marco Island.

Authorities responded to the crash  at 269 N. Barfield Drive at 7:28 a.m., according to Marco Island police. The vehicles involved were a Dodge van and a Volkswagen sedan.

The Dodge van driver, Raul D. Gonzales, 44, of Marco Island, was taken to a Naples hospital via EMS.

The Volkswagen driver, Catherine M. Jacobs, 61, of Naples, was taken by medics to a Naples hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities said there were three passengers between the ages of 5 and 10 in the Volkswagen. The 5-year-old passenger was taken by helicopter to Lee County, and the other two passengers were taken by ambulance to a Naples hospital.

The crash is under investigation by Marco Island police.
