A search party heads out at the start of the effort, Sunday, March 26, 2017. Madison Nichole Krumrine, 16, has been missing since March 23.

Three days after 16-year-old Madison Krumrine of south Hanover was reported missing, a volunteer search effort was put together Sunday.

Family and friends met at St. David’s United Church on Hobart Road around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The effort brought more than 100 community members together, as they hit the surrounding trails, woods, and roadways near where Krumrine lived.

About two hours after the search started, a group of people that had came across something suspicious were joined by West Manheim Police Department members.

The volunteers had found a freshly dug hole, about 6 1/2 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet. There was also a latex glove with red stains located nearby, but after police investigated, it was found that there was no connection to the disappearance.

“Police have confirmed that a ‘suspicious discovery’ is not related to the voluntary disappearance of Madison Krumrine,” West Manheim Township Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

After police arrived at the scene, it was found that the hole and glove were left over from production of a horror movie trailer four weeks ago.

Madison Nichole Krumrine, who was missing since March 23, was found safe and unharmed in southern Maryland.

Police said in the Facebook post that they spoke with the movie producer, who came to the location to verify the scene, and it was confirmed that the findings were in “no way connected to the missing person case.”

Toward the start of the search, which began around 2 p.m., a pillow was found under a tree, and believed to belong to Krumrine.

Beth Mann, a friend of the Krumrine family, organized the search, which was publicized mostly through social media.

“The overall plan for today was just to get the community together to look for anything that might lead us to Madison’s safe return, and finding a little bit more information about what, exactly, happened,” Mann said.

She guessed that there were more than 150 people taking part.

“The exact count is unknown,” Mann said. “We sent groups of 20 or more, sometimes, out. ... It’s heavily wooded, and there are a lot of fields around. The overall support was really good.”

As police continue to search, they remind the public that permission is needed to search private and posted land.

Krumrine was last seen on Thursday, at about 8:30 p.m. The 16-year-old did not show up in class on Friday at South Western Senior High School and left her cell phone at home.

She is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs around 130 pounds, and has blonde hair and green eyes.

There is a reward of up to $5,000 for Krumrine’s safe return.

Anyone who has seen Krumrine or has any other information is urged to call 911 or contact the West Manheim Township Police Department, at (717) 854-5571.
