We Energies is reporting that power has been restored to about 5,600 customers near downtown and east side Milwaukee Friday afternoon.

The utility's outage map showed outages at N. 7th St. at Cherry St., Commerce St. near North Ave. and on E. Pleasant St. near Astor.

The outage was caused by "an underground cable issue. Power will be restored soon," We Energies said in a tweet.

But a new problem emerged when a construction tarp in the same area flew into We Energies equipment and caused an outage to 300 customers, the utility said on its Twitter feed.
