Michael remains in Packers' RB picture

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers apparently decided they saw enough of running back Christine Michael to give him another chance.

Michael, who joined the Packers after being claimed on waivers from the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 16, put a photo of a Packers championship ring on his Instagram account Wednesday. Michael had an official free-agent visit with the Packers, according to ESPN.com, and didn’t post the photo until late in the day.

The Packers did not announce a contract agreement with Michael, but ESPN.com reported it was a done deal.

The return of Michael leaves the Packers with three halfbacks heading into the draft: Ty Montgomery, Don Jackson and Michael. Eddie Lacy, the starter the past four seasons, signed a free-agent deal with the Seahawks on March 14.

The Packers are likely to draft a running back as well as add a couple of undrafted free agents to compete with Jackson and Michael for a roster spot. The Packers liked Michael’s quickness and cutting ability, but he never has been able to sustain any success and is playing for his third team.

Seattle selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft, one spot after the Packers took Lacy.

The 5-10, 220-pound Michael played in nine games with the Packers - including three postseason -- and carried 47 times for 172 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 14 yards.  The Packers were without the injured Lacy and Jackson when they put in a waiver claim on Michael.

In Seattle, Michael led the Seahawks with 469 yards and six touchdowns on 117 carries, but the team decided it had better options and released him. Michael had to learn a new offense when he got to Green Bay, but according to coaches, picked things up quickly.

He sat out one game before making his debut Nov. 28 against Philadelphia.

James Starks and then Ty Montgomery held the No. 1 spot in the backfield, but after Starks suffered a concussion, Michael became the backup behind Montgomery. Michael played 58 snaps on offense in the regular season and 55 in the postseason.

ESPN.com also reported Wednesday that former Tennessee Titans tackle Byron Bell made a free-agent visit. The 6-5, 340-pound Bell was a starter in Tennessee in 2015 and a starter for four seasons with Carolina before that.

But Bell suffered a gruesome leg injury in OTAs last spring and missed the entire 2016 season.

He mostly has played right tackle, but he did play some guard with the Titans in 2015.
