After seven years of manning the sidelines for Farragut High School, Chris Cool stepped down as the boys basketball coach Wednesday.

During his tenure, the Admirals went 100-104 and made four region tournament appearances. A year ago, Farragut posted a 19-12 record and Cool was named District 4-AAA Coach of the Year, but the program took a step backward this season, finishing with an 11-15 record — the fifth time they finished .500 or worse in his time as coach.

"I've been a part of Farragut high school basketball for 10 years — a head coach for seven and an assistant for three — and I just got to the point where I think it's time that I kind of step down and give someone else a chance to run that program," Cool said. "I want to thank all the players that played for me over the last seven years. They played their guts out for us and they bought into everything we told them to do and I just appreciate the way they represented the coaching staff and the community of Farragut."

Cool will continue teaching social studies at Farragut.

As part of a release issued by the school, Farragut stated that it will begin a search for a new coach "immediately."

"We believe that Farragut High School is one of the premier basketball programs in the area," the school added in the release. "Farragut High School will continue to build on the many years of success that we have already experienced both on and off the court."
