Tennessee’s Megan Geer, top, is greeted by teammates at home plate after hitting a home run in the fourth inning against Florida in the NCAA Women’s College World Series on Thursday in Oklahoma City. Geer’s homer was the Lady Vols’ lone hit in their 7-2 loss to Florida.

The University of Tennessee softball game against Auburn scheduled for tonight in Columbia, Tenn., has been canceled because of extremely cold temperatures.

The No. 15 Vols were scheduled to play No. 4 Auburn at 7 p.m. ET in the Mid-State Classic. With wind chills in the mid to high 20s expected, the coaches of both teams, the event manager and the city of Columbia decided to cancel the game out of safety concerns.

Both teams will still appear at the Ridley Sports Complex field at 6 p.m. local time for a hit around that is open to the public and will sign autographs for any fans in attendance.

The Vols (21-3, 2-1) return to SEC play Friday-Sunday when they travel to Fayetteville to face Arkansas in a three-game series.
