Canada, China talk about trade agreement

Canada has begun 90 days of consultations with China about a potential free trade agreement.  Both governments have a stated goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2025.

Canada’s Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay was quoted in a news release from China’s Commerce Ministry saying that China wants food from Canada, and Canada wants to sell it to them.

The Canadian government is soliciting comments from individuals as well as cultural, business and government groups about the proposed agreement.

China is second only to the U.S. as a trading partner with Canada, and it’s growing.  Canada and China did more than $63 billion in trade last year.
