Charges of assault and resisting arrest were dismissed Tuesday against Tara Michelle Smotherman, mother of former University of Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd.

Smotherman, 42, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., was charged with misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest after being arrested during Tennessee's home football game against Florida on Sept. 24.

The charges were dismissed on payment of court costs, contingent on no new charges for the next six months.

She appeared before Knox County General Sessions Court Judge Patricia Hall Long with her attorney Tommy Hindman.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, officers at Neyland Stadium received two complaints of Smotherman creating a disturbance during the game. When KCSO Officer Cheralyn Wood tried to escort Smotherman out of the stadium, she got in the officer's face and began yelling at her, arrest warrants state.

Smotherman pushed Wood in the chest and became combative on the exit ramp as Wood and another officer led her out. She continued to resist and verbally abuse the officers until they forced her to the ground and handcuffed, according to the warrants.

Hurd requested a transfer from the program in October. He is no longer listed on the team's roster.
