Man faces charges in hit-and-run death

A man was charged Monday in a hit-and-run crash in West Allis that killed another driver and injured a woman.

Corkey Joe Mayer, 27, of East Troy, was charged with hit-and-run resulting in death and hit-and-run causing great bodily harm for the crash that killed Thomas H. Jorgenson, 50, of Menomonee Falls, according to a criminal complaint.

The complaint also charges Mayer with driving while revoked causing death and driving while revoked causing great bodily harm.

Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, reported shortly before 1 a.m., Thursday after Jorgenson's vehicle, which was turning north on S. 98th St. from eastbound Greenfield Ave., was struck by a vehicle driven by Mayer, which was westbound on Greenfield Ave., West Allis police said.

A woman who was a passenger of Mayer's was found seriously injured and officers found open alcohol containers inside his vehicle, according to a report from the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office.

Mayer was in the Milwaukee County Jail on Monday with his bail set at $150,300, according to jail records.
