Iowa women 71, UW 60: Badgers women limp to the finish line

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The final chapter of the regular season for the Wisconsin women’s basketball team did not end well.

The Badgers were outscored, 20-8, in the fourth quarter en route to a 71-60 setback to Iowa Sunday at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

UW (8-21, 3-13 Big Ten) led, 52-51, after three quarters and extended their lead to 58-54 less than four minutes into the fourth quarter. Iowa (17-12, 8-8) went on an 11-0 scoring run over the next three minutes to take control of the game.

Avyanna Young led the Badgers with 22 points.

The Badgers are the No. 11 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Wednesday. Wisconsin takes on Rutgers at approximately 3 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

“We’re on a one-game season now going into Wednesday,” said UW coach Jonathan Tsipis.
