Book signings, homeownership class, more set

Local author to hold book signings

First-time author Liza Piatt, of Simi Valley, will hold two signings for her book “Dying to Live: A Spiritual Memoir” on Saturday.

The first will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the $5 Or Less Bookstore at 2880-A Cochran St., Simi Valley. The second book signing will be from 5-8 p.m. at the Open Book in The Oaks mall, 512 W Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

Homeownership class scheduled

CAMARILLO - The Area Housing Authority of Ventura County is offering its Path to Homeownership class from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Camarillo Library, 4101 E. Los Posas Road.

The purpose of the class is to inform participants of the importance of creating a plan for homeownership, including information about programs that provide safe fixed-rate financing options as well as down-payment assistance and other forms of assistance.
The seminars are for information only.

Class offered to help parents

OJAI - A parenting class, Teaching and Improving Parenting Skills, is being offered at Nordhoff High School, 1401 Maricopa Highway, to help the parents who have children in seventh through 12th grades.

The class will discuss such topics as how to never argue with your teenager again. The class will begin Thursday and meet from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for a total of seven Thursdays, with the last class being a completion celebration.

Parent who are interested should contact Nordhoff High at 640-4343, ext. 1760, attention Barbara Kinney. Space is limited to 20 single/couple parent(s). The cost is $35 to cover the workbook, with the money collected on the first night of the class.


Mental health first aid program offered 

PORT HUENEME - Ron Urzua, a mental health first aid trainer, will hold a free eight-hour certification course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Living Hope Church, Room 1, 755 Bard Road, Port Hueneme.

The program will help participants identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance-use disorders.
