Seabee Museum holds special event Saturday

Staff reports

The U.S. Navy Seabee Museum will host a Seabee Celebration Day on Saturday in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Navy's construction battalions.

All programs are free, as is admission to the museum, which is located outside the fenceline of Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme, so base access is not required to visit.

Lara Godbille, director of the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum, speaks at a recent ceremony celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Seabees. The museum is hosting another special event Saturday.

At 10:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m., the museum will offer a behind-the-scenes tour, with museum professionals displaying some of the artifacts not normally on view to the public. Space is limited; to reserve a spot, call 982-6189.

At noon, children ages 6 to 12 can enjoy an Old Salt story and a special activity, then visit the museum's new science, technology, engineering and math center.
