Do you have a little one that loves fairies? This adorable crafternoon project is sure to be a hit then! And they’re sure to entertain while past the creation process. We love crafting with pinecones (see our Butterfly Pinecone and  Pinecone Door Hanging) and when my daughter and I saw these Gold Glitter Pinecones by Darice, we knew we needed to buy them. After a little brainstorming, these pretty little DIY Pinecone Fairies came to life.

DIY Pinecone Fairy Kids Craft

This is a simple craft that a child can help with. My daughter helped me and I love seeing her take on this project. After we created these she played with them for a solid hour and they are now sitting with her fairy garden. If you have a few minutes, follow along as I show you how to make these spunky little fairies.

I used two different methods to make the wings:

The first and simplest way is to use two pipe cleaners to create wings. I used hot glue to attach the two pipe cleaners to middle of a pinecone.

The second method is to use felt. Using a stiff felt heart, cut it in half, trim it down a bit and hot glue the two pieces together to create wings. Attach the wings to the pinecone using hot glue.

Using the wooden bead, attach it to the pinecone. Most of the pinecones had a stem at the top that the bead fit perfectly snug on, but for the few that didn’t, I simply hot glued the bead to the top of the pinecone.

Cut a small length of pipecleaner – approximately 3″. Fold the ends over to create “hands”. Use hot glue to attach to the back of the pinecone by threading them between a row of “petals”. Use the remainder of the pipe cleaner to create legs. Bend the ends to create “feet”, fold in half and glue to the bottom of the pinecone.

To create the felt hat, cut a small half circle of felt – about 2.5″ tall. Roll up and hot glue the seam, trimming off any excess felt in the back.

Glue the hat to the top of the fairy’s head. Use a marker to draw on a face and your fairy is complete!
