Roberts: Trade ‘could quickly turn things around’

The farm bill was the main focus of Thursday’s Senate Ag Committee hearing in Manhattan, Kansas, but another topic was a close second.

“Trade. Trade is on the mind of every farmer and rancher,” said committee chair Kansas Senator Pat Roberts, “and I can assure you that trade is on the mind of Senator (Debbie) Stabenow and myself.”

Roberts called potential disruptions of trade “the biggest danger to the farm industry”.

“We need to sell our product—and I think that’s the one area where we could quickly turn things around,” he said.

Roberts urged the Trump administration to move quickly on bilateral trade deals.
