ESPN writer: WR Kendall Wright would be a fit for Lions

Sign quarterback Matthew Stafford to an extension, rework a deal with defensive end Ezekiel Ansah and retool the right side of the offensive line with the impending losses of free agents Larry Warford and Riley Rieff. Of course, Barnwell also prescribes finding some help on the pass rush to aid Ansah.

One of his more intriguing proposals, though, is that the Lions pursue Titans free agent wide receiver Kendall Wright, who is a little under the radar. The six-year pro, who is 5-foot-10 and 196 pounds, had 29 catches for 416 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Titans.

Free agent could give Lions depth at receiver

Barnwell writes, “Wright isn't a big name, but as a third wideout in an offense that loves to go three-wide and throw short passes, Wright's agility makes him a solid fit. He caught 94 passes in 2013 and looked to be on the verge of a Jarvis Landry-style career, but Wright fell out of favor in Tennessee and eventually landed in a scheme that didn't play to his strengths under Mike Mularkey. The Titans ran three-WR formations a league-low 422 times in 2016, while the Lions had the NFL's fourth-highest mark (732 snaps). Wright won't have the blocking ability of Anquan Boldin, but he should be a more dynamic receiver with upside.”

Wright, who was first-round pick (No. 20 overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Baylor, has 280 catches for 3,244 yards and 18 TDs in five seasons with Tennessee.
