Workshops to teach where to draw the biosecurity line

Measures to prevent livestock disease outbreaks are not confined to just larger farms. Teng Lim, ag engineer with University of Missouri Ag Systems Management, says it’s essential for every farm, even the smaller ones, to figure out where to draw the line.

“Outside visitors, for example, where should they stop? And then, when you have new equipment coming in – when you want to transfer equipment from one barn to the other or one farm to the other, what you should do. It’s a lot of details that people tend to forget.”

The University is hosting five disease outbreak workshops next month all across the state.  Teng tells Brownfield, MU extension has never before had comprehensive events like these. Livestock producers will hear from experts about disease prevention and response and the economics of both.

The registration deadline is this Friday, February 24th.
