Camp report: Despite poor weather, workouts continue

Wily Peralta Has to get more throwing in due to the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

On the field: Because of steady rains overnight, the Brewers pushed their workouts back two hours with all but the bullpen sessions taking place in the stadium rather than the saturated back fields. Despite the logistical challenges, the team appeared to get all its on-field work in. The weather forecast for the rest of the week calls for mid-70s and sun. “We’re good after this,” Counsell said. “The bulk of pitchers throwing to hitters will start on Tuesday and Wednesday.” Wily Peralta and Jorge Lopez are on an accelerated schedule because of their participation in the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) and will throw live batting practice Monday.

Cactus juice: Counsell was asked about the group of young relief pitchers in camp such as Jacob Barnes, Brent Suter and Damien Magnifico who gained some valuable major-league experience a season ago. “They’ve kind of got the ‘I’m-happy-to-be-here step’ out of the way,” he said. “That's kind of over for those guys. It’s on to the next step. That’s a stage a lot of guys have to go through.”
