Third dicamba option receives EPA approval

Growers of dicamba-tolerant soybeans and cotton now have a third herbicide option.

The latest entry is DuPont’s FeXapan herbicide plus VaporGrip Technology, which has just received EPA approval.

The product is similar to Monsanto’s dicamba herbicide called XtendiMax with VaporGrip. DuPont licensed the dicamba herbicide from Monsanto last July.

Jenny Goodman is a product manager with DuPont Crop Protection.

“What we’re really excited about is that it’s the next needed step for DuPont Crop Protection and DuPont Pioneer to really offer soybean growers a complete new herbicide and trait solution to help them maximize their weed control,” Goodman says.

There will be a heavy emphasis on stewardship with FeXapan, Goodman says.

“The supplemental label has a great deal of information on the best way to make sure to prevent things like the risk of particle spray drift,” she says, “and to keep the focus on other areas such as making sure that the sprayer is fully cleaned out so that the dicamba is only sprayed on dicamba-tolerant crops.”

The other dicamba product on the market is BASF’s Engenia (en-jean-ee-ah) herbicide. All three products will be available for use in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and Bollgard II Xtend Flex cotton in 2017, pending individual state approvals.
