Looking for a fun and thoughtful gift idea for dad on his birthday or come June for Father’s Day? This Mini Tie Piñata is just what you need! Fill it with notes, sweet treats, or even cash! Dad will certainly enjoy busting this mini gift open, and the fact that you took the time to create it makes it even more special! I’m not going to lie, it does take about an hour to make, but I think you’ll agree that it is super cute and totally worth the effort. Plus I make it easier by providing a printable template, so read on to get crafting!
SUPPLIES:
Printable Mini Tie Pinata Template
Crepe Paper Streamers
Hot Glue Gun
Double Stick Tape
Scissors
Bone Folder Paper Folding Tool (optional)
Yarn and/or Baker’s Twine
Small Ball
Hole Punch
DIY Father’s Day Gift Idea
DIRECTIONS:
Print the template, cardstock is recommended, but regular paper works as well. Cut out the template following the directions on the print out.
Score and fold both pieces of the pinata.
Punch holes where marked on the top flap of both pieces.
Secure pinata flaps together with double sided tape.
Add double sided tape to the gap pieces and secure in place on inside of the pinata cover piece.
Using a small ball or other object, wrap 3 strands of yarn or twine around it several times and then braid a short tail, securing with a knot. Fill your pinata with small goodies. Place the ball inside the pinata, with the tail hanging out the bottom slit.
Add a yarn loop through the top.
Place the cover on and adhere the top to the bottom using double stick tape or hot glue.
Strengthen the bottom of the pinata with tape.
Now it’s time to cover with the streamers. Take a length of streamer, fold it in half and then cut small slits down the length of it. Starting at the bottom of the pinata simply add a bead of hot glue around the front of the pinata and adhere the streamer \going all around the pinata. Cut and secure where the two ends meet. Move up to the next row, overlapping the last streamer and repeat. Continue all the way to the top. I trimmed the first streamer to a point and also added streamers on the bottom sides and the top flap, ensuring the whole pinata is covered.
