Investigators have confirmed the bone matter found during a residential excavation in Wauwatosa is a human skull, estimated to be decades old.
The skull was discovered Friday morning by contractors who were working at a lot in the 1700 block of Underwood Ave. The land has been vacant for about three years since a house on the site was torn down, according to relatives of the property owner.
The skull was estimated to be decades old based on its condition and material found with it, the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office said Monday.
It will be sent to the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas for further analysis by a forensic anthropologist, according to the medical examiner's office.
