Two teenagers killed in a crash that occurred while they were fleeing police in a car taken in an armed robbery were identified publicly Monday.

Antoine Jones, 15, was driving the stolen Volkswagen Passat when it crashed at N. 31st St. and W. Capitol Drive  about 8 p.m. Friday, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office.

Jones died at a hospital from his injuries and his passenger, 18-year-old Oscar Rash , died at the scene of the crash, authorities said.

The stolen car was taken about an hour earlier during an armed robbery at N. 29th St. and W. Villard Ave., according to police.

When officers saw the car near N. Teutonia Ave. and W. Cornell St. and tried to pull it over, the driver refused to stop and ran a red light at Capitol Drive, where it was hit by a Chevy Cavalier, police said.

At the time of the crash, police squad cars were about two blocks away, according to investigative reports from the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office.

The stolen car then hit a light pole and split in two, according to the reports. A gun was found in the stolen vehicle, officials said.

The driver of the Chevy remained hospitalized Monday with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Milwaukee Police Department policy allows officers to engage in pursuits when they know or have probable cause to believe any occupants were involved in a violent felony.
