A mild and foggy Sunday capped a weekend that saw temperatures tie a record high in Milwaukee, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds cleared across southern Wisconsin on Saturday, and the sun lifted temperatures into the mid-50s. The high in Milwaukee reached 56 degrees, tying a record set in 1934.

The high temperature on Sunday in Milwaukee was 46, shy of the record of 53 degrees dating back to 1964.

Milwaukee typically sees nine days above 35 degrees in January, but this month there have already been 14 days warmer than that, according to the National Weather Service. With more above-freezing temperatures in the forecast, at least through Thursday, it's likely Milwaukee will rack up more days above 35 degrees.

Unusually high low temperatures were also recorded on Sunday. The average low temperature in Milwaukee for this time of year is 15 degrees, but the low temperature dropped only to 39 degrees Sunday. The record highest low temperature for the date was 38 degrees set in 1933.

There is a 20% chance of rain Monday, with patchy fog before noon and a high near 41. Rain is possible Monday night, with a low of 33.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a 20% chance of rain after 1 p.m. and a high near 40. There is a slight chance of rain early Tuesday night, which could turn to snow after 2 a.m. Accumulations of one to two inches is possible.
