Mike McCarthy says status of Packers WRs to be game-time decision

The Green Bay Packers are not yet ruling out wide receivers Jordy Nelson, Devante Adams and Geronimo Allison from Sunday’s NFC championship game.

None of the three participated in a full practice this week, but head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that each player would “be given every chance to play” against the Atlanta Falcons.

Nelson suffered a rib injury in the wild card round two weeks ago and did not play last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Adams (ankle) and Allison (hamstring) were injured against the Cowboys.

McCarthy wants to see how much each of the players can do in a final practice on Saturday, and the team could make game-time decisions on their availability once at the Georgia Dome on Sunday.

“I’m going to give these guys the open time frame to do everything they can to play. Maybe one or two of those guys will have to work Sunday before the game,” McCarthy said.

Nelson was able to participate in a limited portion of practice on Thursday, his first on-field work since the wild- card game, but was sent home Friday with an illness.

Nelson is the team’s leading receiver, with 97 catches for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns in the regular season. Adams caught 75 passes from Aaron Rodgers, along with 12 touchdowns. Allison, an undrafted rookie, helps provide depth at receiver, and has four catches in the postseason.

Playing without even one of them would be a significant loss for a Packers’ offense that will have to try to match the Falcons’ high-powered attack.

“They want to play. Obviously the coaching staff wants them to play but medically there are thresholds they have to get over,” McCarthy said. “That’s why we go through process. The plan is set for each and every one of them. That’s why we’re going to need full week for couple of guys.”
