An 18-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of fatally shooting his friend during a dispute over shoes and money, according to a criminal complaint released Thursday.

Decarlos Chambers

Decarlos K. Chambers faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide and illegal gun possession in the death of 20-year-old Kyle T. Weary on Jan. 11.

According to the complaint:

Milwaukee police learned Weary had recently left a pair of $300 Jordan sneakers at Chambers' house and there was rising tension between to the two because Chambers had not returned the shoes. Chambers wanted Weary to pay a $15 debt related to gas money first.

On Jan. 11, the two argued during a phone call and Chambers was heard threatening Weary if he went to Chambers' house. That evening, Weary was dropped off near the 2800 block of S. 57th St. He had a pistol. A few minutes later, gunfire erupted.

Surveillance video showed a man in a hooded sweatshirt hiding behind bushes before the shooting. Weary is then seen on video moving toward the center of the street and firing into a house where police knew Chambers had once resided.

The footage showed Weary running away and the hooded figure emerging and firing in his direction. Weary died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Based on the video and other evidence, Chambers was arrested and charged in the homicide.

He could not legally possess a gun because he had a prior juvenile adjudication, or conviction, for felony theft. Chambers remained in Milwaukee County Jail Thursday on $100,000 bail and is expected in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
