Dennis Lindsay, Farragut High School's distinguished girls soccer coach, announced his retirement on Wednesday.

Lindsay, who led the program since 1991, coached the Lady Admirals to 12 region championships, 11 district titles and five state runner-up finishes. He was named district coach of the year nine times, region coach of the year 12 times and in 2004 was named state coach of the year.

Lindsay ends his career 447-105-48.

"I guess it's just time to retire," said Lindsay, 69. "I'm getting old. I don't have as much energy as I used to have. I have a good team coming back for a coach, so it won't look bad. When I left the boys, I left a real good team for the new coach there. I didn't want to leave the cupboard bare."

Lindsay took over Farragut's girls soccer program six games into the 1991 season. He coached the girls throughout, and also coached the boys from 1997-2001, including a state runner-up finish in 1998.

"The Farragut High School girls’ soccer team ... possesses a great deal of talent and has the potential for continued success," Farragut athletic director Don Dodgen said in a news release. "In order to continue to grow the program and provide players with the guidance necessary to be state champions, the school administration and athletics department will undertake an extensive search to find the best leadership available to take the program forward."
